While Connecticut may be small, we are big on views. Many have hiked to the collection of towers sprinkled throughout the state to take in panoramic scenery that stretches on for miles. But there is one vista that is often overlooked. Take the short trek up to Lion's head and you will be rewarded with a roaringly expansive view.
Lion's Head is a mesmerizing overlook located on the 52.3-mile Connecticut section of the Appalachian Trail near the Massachusetts border. The great part is you don't have to hike the whole trail to reach this prized spot.
Hike just a short distance, a little over 1/2 mile, to reach the awe-inspiring view.
The first part of the journey meanders through a field where during the warm months, wildflowers show off their colors.
The latter part of the trail leads up to the top of the summit. Scramble up a short rocky section to ascend to the top.
The elevation of Lion's Head is 1738 feet. Once you make it to the peak, you'll have bragging rights for summiting this breath-taking overlook as well as now having journeyed along the Appalachian Trail.
Drink in the view that stretches endlessly before you. Salisbury's twin lakes are visible in the distance, their blue waters contrasting against the landscape.
Take the trail to this show-stopping panoramic overlook for a view that will drop your jaw. It's not uncommon for hikers to roar with delight when they catch their first glimpse.
