We've got a lot of great small towns and cities in Connecticut. One of our favorites is Milford: this place has incredible natural beauty. With stunning beaches, green spaces, and marsh lands, it's almost otherworldly in how gorgeous it is. Throw in a wonderful downtown area and some delightful local attractions and this is a fantastic day trip in Connecticut.
Milford has a population of around 50,000 people, so it's not too big, but also not so small that there aren't plenty of amenities and attractions. What's really amazing about the city, though, is its natural beauty.
Silver Sands State Park is one of our favorite state parks in Connecticut. This magical park has two miles of hiking trails, sandy shoreline, a marshy area, and a boardwalk.
The Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center at Milford Point is another gorgeous beach area in Milford. Make sure you check out the fantastic boardwalk hike. It's a short, easy trail that's especially great for wildlife lovers. More than 300 bird species have been spotted at this preserve.
If you love sweets, you won't want to miss the PEZ Visitor Center. It's technically in the town of Orange, but it's just a few miles from Milford, so you can easily visit in a day trip.
The downtown Milford area is so charming. You'll find lots of small local shops and restaurants.
The Milford Green is one of the largest greens in New England. The park hosts plenty of festivals throughout the year and is a great spot to walk around and enjoy the downtown atmosphere.
Whether you want to enjoy the city's natural beauty or are more interested in visiting the local businesses, there's plenty to do in Milford.
