Are you ready for an adventure? Of course, you are: You, my friend, are a Coloradan, which means adventure is in your blood! Thankfully, there is no shortage of places around the Centennial State for adventure, including this jaw-dropping, secluded Colorado mill that is always worth a visit:
Welcome to the downright stunning Crystal Mill!
Billed as the "most photographed mill in the country," the Crystal Mill was once a power plant for the Sheep Mountain Tunnel and Mine and was operated by a large waterwheel that produced compressed air for miners.
Like most mines of its time, Sheep Mountain would eventually falter, leaving behind the beautiful structure that manages to get better with age.
Located near Carbondale, Crystal Mill attracts thousands of visitors each year and is accessible in late spring, summer, and fall via foot, bike, horseback, or 4-wheel drive vehicle.
Don't forget your camera - there is a reason why this National Register of Historic Places site is the most photographed mill in America!
Crystal Mill is a nearly 9-mile out-and-back trail and can be accessed from Crested Butte by taking Gothic Road north for 15.5 miles. After passing the West Maroon Trailhead, you will find a parking area near the South Fork Crystal River.
