Do you ever wish to escape reality, if not for a day or two? Unfortunately, in this fast-paced day and age, it is hard to find an escape that is both easy and affordable, which is why we here at Only in Colorado are always looking out for such a getaway! Today, we are excited to introduce you to this small town in Colorado that is perfect when you need to get away from it all:
Welcome to the tiny town of Towaoc: The capital of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe located on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in southwest Colorado.
Nestled near the Four Corners, Towaoc is as historical as it is beautiful, as the town of 1,200 - home to one of the only American Indian tribes remaining in Colorado - is surrounded by vast prairie and plateaus and is home to friendly and welcoming residents.
Thanks to its location, there is plenty to see and do in and around Towaoc, beginning with the fascinating Ute Mountain Tribal Park and its intricate cliff dwellings and pictographs.
In town, you will want to visit the dazzling Ute Mountain Casino Hotel for all of your favorite tables and slots, plus a delicious restaurant and luxurious accommodations.
If you venture just beyond town limits, you will discover even more Only in Colorado gems, like the previously mentioned Four Corners Monument, Mesa Verde National Park, and beautiful Durango!
As if you need another reason to visit and love Towaoc, there is plenty of outdoor recreation at your fingertips, a la hiking, camping, fishing, and more.
To learn more about the people and places around Towaoc, please visit the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe's website.
