If you are like me, the word castle goes hand-in-hand with places such as Great Britain, Scotland, Disney World, and basically everywhere else but Colorado. Despite these stereotypes, there actually are legitimate castles in Colorado, including one that is as beautiful as it is haunted. Here's more on the famous Miramont Castle in Colorado, and why it's not for the faint of heart.
Located in historic Manitou Springs is the equally historic Miramont Castle; a 14,000-square-foot masterpiece that comes complete with a jaw-dropping Victorian-era exterior...
...40 bedrooms...
...special tea times and other must-attend events!
Miramont Castle in Colorado was built in 1895 and is unique from other estates because it was constructed using a blend of architectural styles, including Byzantine and Tudor, among others. The structure has been used in a number of different capacities over the decades, including a home, sanatarium, and - currently - as a fascinating museum.
In addition to its rich history, special events, and eclectic ambiance, Miramont is also home to... ghosts?!
Accounts from both employees and visitors suggest that this stunning castle is inhabited by a number different ghosts and spirits, including a little girl who spends time in the home's doll room…
...the spirit of the old priest who originally built the castle...
Why is this ghost thought to be the priest? The spirit remains in his former room, wrinkling the sheets of his freshly-made bed.
...and a number of unknown spirits who roam the castle's old chapel.
The chapel might just be the spookiest room of the estate, as many people report hearing disembodied voices and other strange, sourceless sounds.
Miramont Castle in Colorado is located in Manitou Springs and is currently open for self-guided tours.
