Old Faithful. The Valley of Geysers. El Tatio. The world is full of these incredible natural hot springs, which send boiling hot water and steam shooting upward in an impressive column; however, did you know that Colorado is home to one, too? If you have yet to hear about or visit this amazing place, it’s time to (hot) spring into action and check out this awesome free attraction:
Located in the scenic San Juan National Forest near the town of Dolores is the Geyser Spring Trail; a short and sweet 1.5-mile hike that leads you to the only true geyser in Colorado.
Along the way, you’ll spot plenty of surprises, like the newly constructed bridge (pictured)…
...a fairytale-esque aspen forest...
...and pristine streams trickling by. Geyser Spring is not only one of the easier Colorado hikes, but one of the most beautiful as well!
While the hike to the geyser is lovely, the star of the show is, of course, the geyser itself, which erupts (or in this case, bubbles over) every half hour.
Please note: swimming in the geyser is NOT permitted.
Due to the nature of the spring, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide gasses can be released during eruptions and exposure to these gasses can be dangerous.
Geyser Spring Trail can be found by taking Highway 145 east from Dolores for 12 miles, then turning left onto West Dolores Road. Once on West Dolores, continue on for approximately eight miles to the trailhead parking lot on the right side of the road.

Since you'll be visiting the San Juan National Forest, you will want to check out this other utterly gorgeous forest in Colorado. Have you been to these places? Let us know how it was in the comments.
