Do you need a weekend away? There is nothing more relaxing and recharging than a change of scenery, and what better place to do that than one of our unique small towns? If you are ready to begin your weekend escape, we recommend checking out one (or all) of these 8 small towns in Colorado that are downright charming:
1. Burlington
Nestled away on the Eastern Plains, Burlington is the epitome of Small Town, USA, thanks to its unique attractions and picturesque downtown area! Bonus? This town of 3,457 is home to the historic - and still-working! 1905 Kit Carson Carousel and the exciting Old Town (pictured).
2. Creede
If you want a small town with a big personality, look no further than Creede (population: 312). Recently named one of the Most Charming Towns in America by Esquire, Creede is an Old West community that boasts most of its original architecture, plus shopping and dining, art galleries, museums, and mine tours.
3. Palisade
Welcome to Colorado Wine County via stunning Palisade! Home to just over 2,500 residents, Palisade - AKA the Peach Capital of Colorado - is THE place to be for both local wine and fresh produce, plus a jaw-dropping landscape courtesy of the surrounding plateaus and mountains.
4. Mancos
Located in the southwest corner of Colorado, Mancos is worth visiting just for the locals (1,627 of them, to be exact) and delicious food; however, once people find out it is a mere 6 miles from the entrance of Mesa Verde, it becomes all the more enticing.
5. Leadville
Once a prosperous mining town, Leadville is now considered to be one of the Best Historic Towns in America via USA Today's 10Best, thanks - in part - to its museums, old homes and businesses, and mining structures. In addition to the history itself, Leadville boasts a population of 2,742, plus live theater, festivals, and other special events.
6. Ault
If you are looking for "A Unique Little Town," look no further than Ault!! (Get it?) Located in Northern Colorado, Ault - population: 1,947 - is home to a surprising number of things to see and do, including farms and orchards, tons of antiquing, and easy access to some of the area's best outdoor recreation.
7. Manitou Springs
It may be relatively bigger than most towns on our list (with a population of 5,283), but Manitou Springs has arguably the best art scene in the state. When you visit, be sure to check out the town's many murals and galleries, as well as special events and exhibits, street art, and shops.
8. Dinosaur
Never heard of Dinosaur (population: 173)? Truth be told, there aren't *tons* of things to see and do - minus a few gas stations and diners - but it is the best place to stop on your way to the can't-miss Dinosaur National Monument!
