Warmer weather means camping season is here in Arkansas! One weekend getaway to get underway is at Redding Rec, a splendid area north of Ozark. This peaceful campground sits along the Mulberry River, so adventure is never far away! Let's explore this area more and see what all this campground has to offer:
Here in the Natural State, Arkansans can camp year-round. However! There's no better time to plot an overnight adventure than early spring.
Welcome our season of fresh wildflowers, skip the worst of the mosquitos, and even take advantage of the full-force waterfalls with a campout in spring.
One gorgeous spot to pitch a tent is at the Redding Recreation Area outside of Ozark and Cass, AR.
Nestled within the Ozark National Forest, Redding Rec has all the outdoor adventures without the state park crowds. No reservations are needed for any of the 27 campsites here and visits stay at $15/day all year long.
Besides just enjoying the magical forest setting, Redding Rec also has an important water feature.
Redding Rec sits shoreside to the Mulberry River, one of the designated Scenic Rivers of Arkansas. Pick up a paddle or fishing pole for an afternoon of river fun. The Mulberry is best known for having smallmouth, largemouth and spotted bass as well as green and longear sunfish.
It may be too cold to swim but it's the perfect paddle season!
The Mulberry River is one of Arkansas' most popular kayaking destinations. Portions of the 55-mile long river have quite exciting whitewater rapids, especially during the spring.
Although the river has ample recreation, there's plenty to discover by land as well!
Our favorite trail in the area is Spy Rock Loop! The full loop is over 8-miles long and perfect for a backpacking adventure; however, even a short out-and-back trek will reward your hiking party! For a GPS-friendly map of the trail head here.
Kick off your camping season with a few nights at Redding Recreation Area! It may just be your new family tradition!
For a more detailed breakdown of camping fees as well as area status updates be sure to keep tabs on the Forest Service page found here.
