Never underestimate the recharge that can come from a simple day trip to the forest. The stunning features are diverse as well as plentiful at Cove Creek Natural Area. Take a stroll and enjoy the sights at this gorgeous Arkansas gem! Let's head to this underrated area and take a hike around the trail:
This quiet natural area is a wonderful escape into the woods.
North of Conway resides the slightly lesser known Springfield - Springfield, AR. Near here is where you'll find the Cove Creek Natural Area.
The natural area has a wonderful variety of sightseeing and recreation spread throughout its 228 acres.
The preserved land is composed of sandstone glades and woodlands that houses countless species of plants and animals. This section of Cove Creek and the surrounding area became an official natural area in 1976.
You don't have to walk for hundreds of acres to enjoy the beauty, however!
A primitive footpath has been forged around some of the most notable sights in the area. The trail is 1.5 round trip.
The majority of the trail follows Cove Creek, a tributary of Cadron Creek.
In addition to seeing the western shoreside of the creek, hikers will also travel to multiple scenic vistas, footbridges, a wet-weather waterfall, and an endless upland hardwood forest.
The bluffline above Cove Creek's gorge is a work of sandstone art!
It may not have quite the height as the Buffalo's painted bluff but Cove Creek is still stunning. The sandstone ridge has been slowly eroded away by the creek to create a unique rock formation.
The best part of all these sights is how kid-friendly they are!
You don't need to be an expert backpacker to blaze this trail. The loop is rated as easy, though keep in mind it is not ADA accessible. This is a great nature walk for small Arkansas hikers.
Whether you're on the vista or below the treeline, this nature walk will be a family favorite!
Pack your camera and don't forge to research further before heading out the door! Visit the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission website for more details as well as a downloadable trail map.
