There’s little better in the springtime than sitting near the banks of a river. Luckily, Arkansas has an abundance of rivers and an abundance of cities and towns near their banks. Of course we could not list every Arkansas town near a river, for the internet would surely explode at the glories of charming Arkansas waterfronts. What we have done is found five of our favorite river towns, just for you.
1. Fort Smith
Set on the Arkansas River, Fort Smith is a border town with rich history and a lot of charm. Visitors can not only find gorgeous views of the Arkansas River, but great food, the rousing nightlife of Garrison Avenue, and the courtroom and gallows of an infamous hanging judge.

2. Little Rock
Sidled up alongside the Arkansas River in central Arkansas, Little Rock is Arkansas’s capitol city. It is home to beautiful views of the river, some delicious food, the Clinton Library, and the river market district.

3. Jasper
Jasper might be a tiny town, but it’s right next to the Buffalo National River, and that makes it as charming as anywhere else. It’s got an adorable downtown area, places to rent canoes for your float trip, and cabins where you can stay the night.

Plus, the Buffalo wilderness is just gorgeous all the way around.
4. Ozark
Ozark is a small town nestled up against the Arkansas River. It boasts a barbecue restaurant that foodies drive for miles to visit and is adjacent to Arkansas wine country. Fans of scenic byways will also enjoy Ozark’s position on the highway 23, the Pig Trail.

5. Heber Springs
Once visited by President John F. Kennedy, Heber Springs was founded as a health resort and is located on the Little Red River. Looking for a spot to trout fish? Try the Little Red River just below Greers Ferry Dam. They’ve got outfitters who can hook you up.

Added benefit? Collins Creek is nearby.
