Arizona is often thought of as a desert wasteland that's too hot, dry, and boring to be visited - especially in the summer. But what if I told you that there are quite literally 128 lakes (and five major rivers) peppered all throughout the state? It's true - Arizona is actually full of hidden gems, tiny paradises, lush oases, rolling plains, and (almost) any other type of landscape you can think of; of those 128 lakes, only two are natural. Those aren't the lakes we're going to focus on today - instead, let's take a look at Lake Mohave in Arizona (and Nevada - we share). It's a stunningly beautiful, lesser-known paradise that a surprisingly low number of even native Arizonans know is there. Check it out - it's one of the most beautiful lakes in Arizona.
Welcome to the sparkling-clear Lake Mohave, hidden betwixt the Black, Eldorado, and Newberry Mountains and often overlooked in favor of much more popular lakes nearby.
It serves as a reservoir on the Colorado River and was originally constructed as part of a 1944 Water Treaty with Mexico.
Its existence is all thanks to the Davis Dam, which was completed in 1951.
Today, it serves as a beautiful place to escape the real world - at least for a little while.
The drive in is always beautiful, no matter which direction you're coming from.
You can access the lake from Arizona through Bullhead City, and from Nevada through Laughlin.
There's plenty to do around here, the most popular of which is by far boating and fishing.
There are three marinas with launch ramps on Lake Mohave; two of them are in Arizona, and one is in Nevada.
Fish that call this beautiful lake home are plentiful and include a rare endangered species.
Fun fact: Lake Mohave is home to the largest population of Razorback Suckers, of which there are less than 5,000 remaining. Please take care of the lake - it's not just fun for us, it's a whole life for someone else!
Other than the lovely riparian and aquatic habitats present here, Lake Mohave is a sparkling diamond in the rough.
Why bother with the crowds up at Lake Mead when you can come down here and enjoy some peace and quiet?
...you know you want to.
