The Grand Canyon State is where outdoor adventure awaits. The best way to explore all of the stunning landscapes this gorgeous state of ours has to offer is on our many hiking trails. And we sure do have a massive number of trails, don't we? While trails like Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain and Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon are quite iconic, there's another iconic hiking trail in Arizona that can bring out the adventurer in all of us.
At 800 miles long, running between the Utah and Mexican borders, the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT) is an iconic hiking trail in Arizona.
While long, this trail is divided into 43 passages. That gives you the option to either complete the trail in its entirety over the course of several weeks, trek just a few miles, or hike one passage at a time.
It starts in the south at the Mexican border with the Huachuca Mountain Passage and terminates in the north by the Utah border with the Buckskin Mountain Passage.
The trail connects diverse landscapes that include mountains, deserts, forests, canyons, and more.
Most of the AZT is on federal land including national parks, national monuments, national forest, state parks, and land under the Bureau of Land Management.
Whether you end up trekking the AZT in its entirety or little by little at a time, you're guaranteed to have quite a scenic adventure!
And adventure is always worth the trek, right?
