I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Throughout Arizona, Mexican restaurants are abundant. Found on nearly every street or every corner in every town and city, we can have Mexican food whenever our hearts desire. But not all restaurants are created equal. While you can certainly have upscale Mexican cuisine at a variety of eateries around the state, it is a place like Valle Luna with its humble ambiance and cuisine that attract the masses. I love nothing more than visiting a family-owned Mexican restaurant in Arizona. And Valle Luna is one that many have returned to time and again over the past 40+ years.
Valle Luna's first location was established in 1983 at 3336 W Bell Road in Phoenix's Moon Valley. Since then, it's become a landmark restaurant in the area.
Family owned and operated from the beginning, it was first established by Tia Rita who served as the family matriarch. She opened Valle Luna in hopes to serve delicious Arizona-Sonoran cuisine that go back to her roots of growing up in the Mexican state of Sonora.
While Tia Rita passed away in 2008, her legacy lives on in the restaurant she left behind. Her family maintains the original location as well as two additional locations in the valley.
Not only is the food here absolutely flavorful and delicious but affordable, too. And with its friendly, welcoming service, you'll feel right at home when you dine here.
If you're working in the area, Valle Luna offers affordable lunch specials between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can create your own lunch combo or order a sandwich or any number of tasty, filling Mexican dishes.
Or come here for a relaxing lunch or dinner with friends and family. There's also Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m.
The portions here are generous whether you order tacos, a chimichanga, enchiladas, Mexican pizza, etc. You may also want to try one of the Grande House Margaritas.
