One of the best Halloween towns in Arizona is also among the most haunted places in the state. Vulture City Ghost Town, a former mining camp where restless spirits are said to roam, transforms into a spooktacular village complete with live pumpkin carving, whimsical jack-o-lantern displays, trick-or-treating, food, and more. Although the destination is crawling with ghosts, this event is family-friendly, and it's the perfect way to celebrate spooky season.
Vulture City doesn't even have to do anything special for Halloween to be scary - it is, after all, one of the most haunted places in Arizona.
From 1863 until the start of World War II, the town was home to a wildly successful mine that produced over 600,000 ounces of gold and silver.
Its heyday came to an end with the start of the war, as all non-essential mines were ordered to close. The residents - many of whom were mine workers - quickly left town, and the rest was history.
Today, Vulture City is a ghost town and has been turned into a tourist attraction. Visitors can see the old mine shaft as well as an array of other historic buildings.
Perhaps the most infamous landmark you'll come across is the "Hanging Tree," where 18 men were hanged for stealing gold.
Embracing its eeriness, Vulture City is putting on a Halloween extravaganza like no other this year.
From October 21-23, 2022, you can celebrate the spooky season with all sorts of attractions for the whole family.
Marvel at a 1,000-pound pumpkin and walk through dozens of whimsical jack-o-lantern displays.
You can also watch live pumpkin carvings and participate in a family carving event led by the famous Villafane Studios.
Other activities include blacksmith demonstrations, trick-or-treating, face painting, pony rides, food vendors, and a beer garden.
The fun takes place during both the day and at night, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy all there is to see and do. And who knows? You just might see an actual ghost.
Visit the Vulture City Ghost Town website or Facebook page for more information, including ticket prices for the event.
