Who's excited to go leaf-peeping this year? Fall foliage peaks at different times all across Arizona and the interactive map from Smoky Mountains takes the guesswork out of planning a trip. This user-friendly tool lets you see exactly when the leaves will be at their most spectacular this season, no matter where you are or plan to go in the Grand Canyon State.
On the week of October 5, the central portions of Arizona's high desert region will be at near-peak. Areas along the northern edges of the state won't be quite ready for leaf-peeping yet.
In the bottom-right corner of the map, you'll find a legend that explains what each color means.
This week, higher elevations are your best bet for watching the leaves begin to change. Consider a trip to the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff, where countless hikes and scenic drives showcase the autumnal splendor.

As we move towards the middle of October, peak foliage begins to arrive in the Sedona and Flagstaff areas. Regions on either side are at near-peak, and further down, autumn hues are just beginning to set in.
By this time, the very southernmost parts of the state have moved past the "no change" phase, but you still shouldn't expect to see anything too incredible.
Head out towards the Arizona Snowbowl in mid-to-late October to catch the aspens at their most vivid, awe-inspiring stage. You can even take a gondola ride over 10,000 feet in the air through the foliage!
If hiking is your favorite way to take in the brilliant golden leaves, it doesn't get much better than the Aspen Nature Lollipop Trail. At under three miles long, this short-and-sweet woodland adventure is a must during this time of year.
Not far from Flagstaff is Sedona, home to the iconic West Fork Trail. Meandering alongside Oak Creek, this 7.2-mile hike boasts some of the most spectacular fall foliage Arizona has to offer.
Unlike the Aspens, which only turn yellow (albeit the most eye-popping yellow we've ever seen), the trees on this trail erupt in a mesmerizing display of bright reds and rich ambers, as well.
October is definitely prime time for fall foliage across much of Arizona. Almost all the leaves are past peak by now — save for the lower elevation areas down south, that is.
If you don't feel like venturing up north to go leaf-peeping, just wait until the first week or two of November.
Boyce Thompson Arboretum is easily among the most stellar spots to enjoy autumn in southern Arizona. Located in Superior, this long-standing botanical garden features a plethora of trails that wind through a landscape ablaze with color.
