1. Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks (Tuba City)
Our prehistoric day trip begins in Tuba City, located about an hour and a half north of Flagstaff.
Right off of US-160, you'll find the Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks, an unassuming roadside attraction you could easily miss if you weren't looking for the sign.
This renowned destination features real dinosaur tracks estimated to have formed around 200 million years ago, during the early Jurassic period. The tracks have been authenticated by paleontologists from Northern Arizona University.
Not only will you see dinosaur footprints, but also eggs and even some fossilized bones!
While it remains unknown exactly what type of dinosaur left this fascinating evidence behind, scientists hypothesize that it belonged to several carnivorous species.
Please note: A Navajo tour guide must accompany you to see the tracks. There is no set admission fee, but some of the guides do charge - and even if yours doesn't, a small donation is encouraged.
2. Pangaea Land of the Dinosaurs (Scottsdale)
Next up, we're heading to Scottsdale to see some fake - but still totally awesome - dinosaurs.
Located at the Arizona Boardwalk, Pangaea Land of the Dinosaurs is an interactive, indoor dinosaur park with life-size animatronic dinosaurs and several other attractions.
From a dino-themed arcade to a fossil excavation station to presentations and special events, there are no shortage of opportunities for educational fun.
3. Pangaea Dinosaur Grill (Scottsdale)
After a jam-packed, fun-filled day, it's time to refuel at Pangaea Dinosaur Grill.
Conveniently nestled right above the park, this themed restaurant keeps the dino vibes going with decorations galore.
Pterodactyls soar high above the tables and dinosaur fossils are mounted on the walls.
On the menu, you'll see everything from Greek-inspired entrees to pizza to burgers, sandwiches, and seafood.
Many of the dishes have creative names, such as the "T-Rex Burger." There are even dino-shaped chicken nuggets for the little ones!
