That sweltering summer heat never quite feels like it will go away this time of year. If you're looking for a reason to escape for fresh air, a quiet atmosphere, and cool nights, you'll want to consider booking a stay in a state park cabin.
One spot in particular that feels like a well-deserved getaway is into Arizona's Verde Valley.
Even in the peak of summer, the temperatures here are slightly cooler than most other areas of the state and summer nights feel delightfully cool.
Over at Dead Horse Ranch State Park, you can reserve a campsite for an overnight stay in a tent or your RV.
But we personally love the rustic little log cabins found at the park.
The state park has a total of eight one-room cabins in a little circle drive within eyeshot of the Verde River.
Each is able to host up to six people, including children.
They have one bunk bed and one full-sized bed with mattresses, plus air conditioning to stay cool during the day. Just bring your own sheets, blankets, and other sleeping items to stay comfy at night.
During a stay here, you can enjoy walking local trails, fishing or kayaking on the river, and horseback riding.
Afterward, watch the sunset from your cabin's porch. Sounds like the ideal getaway, doesn't it?
Dead Horse Ranch State Park is located in Cottonwood, about 1.5 miles from the town's main drag.
Cabins cost $60 per night for up to 14 nights, plus a $10 reservation fee. Pets are allowed in certain cabins. For additional details, visit the state park's website or Facebook page.
