Have you ever ordered a steak at a restaurant only for it to come out either too tough to chew (if you prefer medium or below) or practically still alive (if you're partial to well-done)? Well, consider those days over! At Steak & Stone in Mesa, you get to cook your own artisan cut of meat on a 500-degree stone, all while watching planes take off from and land at Falcon Field.
Overlooking Falcon Field in Mesa, Steak & Stone is a unique restaurant that takes date nights and family dinners alike to a higher level (pun intended).
You'll find the eatery on North Thunderbird Circle, and its hours are 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily.
Upon entrance, you'll feel as if you've stepped into someone's home.
Not only does the modern farmhouse décor impart some undeniable country charm, the service is such that everyone who walks through the doors feels like family.
Plenty of indoor seating is available, and all the tables offer stunning views of the airfield.
If you'd like a window seat, however, we highly suggest either making reservations or arriving early, as these are the most coveted spots in the house.
There's also an outdoor patio, which, on nice days, provides an unforgettable dining experience.
Without so much as a pane of glass separating you from the runway, you can watch in awe as planes take off and land all throughout your meal.
Speaking of the meal, it starts off in the best way possible: with a loaf of perfectly toasted bread and the most luscious whipped butter to ever pass your lips.
In keeping with the do-it-yourself spirit at Steak & Stone, you get to slice it to your desired thickness. Should you be in the mood, other appetizers include fried vegetables, Thai beef lettuce wraps, shrimp cocktail, and loaded potato wedges.
The main course is where things get interesting, as all artisan cuts of meat are served on a 500-degree cooking stone. In other words, you get to cook your own dinner!
From steak bites to the classic house sirloin to fresh salmon, there's something to please every palate.
If you do opt for steak, a handy cheat sheet lets you know exactly how long to cook it to achieve your desired level of doneness.
By handing the reigns over to the customer, Steak & Stone has taken strides to eliminate the struggles of over or undercooked steak. All entrees come with two sides, which include usual suspects like fries, baked potatoes, and mac and cheese, as well as more unique offerings, like a mushroom medley and creamed corn.
Other main dishes include sandwiches, burgers, salads, prime rib, and several other delicious options.
Oh, and before we forget - at least try to save a little room for dessert. With selections like bread pudding, peach cobbler, a hot brownie a-la-mode, and more, it would be a crying shame not to.
