Of all the things to do and places to see in Alaska, there are a handful of natural wonders that can't be missed or go unnoticed. The allure of Alaska for many travelers and explorers is the impressive wonders mother nature has shaped our state with. Towering glaciers, vast species of wildlife, even the extreme seasons, all of these wonders make Alaska as amazing as it is.
1) Tons of glaciers.
There are over 100,000 glaciers in Alaska and every single one of them will leave you standing in awe. For a really great experience, go to Glacier Bay National Park.
2) Denali... duh.
What's more wonderful than Denali? The Denali Park and Preserve offers one-of-a-kind experiences all year round. Especially during the fall when all the leaves are changing.
3) Active volcanos.
I bet you didn't know that Alaska has TWO active volcanos. I find that number relatively small for how massive our state is.
4) Show me the wildlife.
Alaska has insane amounts of wildlife. It even has 12 species of big game, some of which are only native to Alaska. The amazing migrations of birds and whales and land mammals is one of the coolest natural wonders of Alaska.
5) Lake Clark.
We have the national monument of Lake Clark in Lake Clark National Park. The park itself is over 4,030,015 acres and Lake Clark is only reachable by airplane.
6) The Tongass National Forest.
The Tongass National Forest is the nations largest national forest, spanning over 17 million acres. Holy cow! Imagine all the beautiful sights and wildlife you'd come across just touring around in your spare time.
7) Chena Hot Springs.
A brilliant and wonderful gift from mother nature. These thermal waters will leave you relaxed and refreshed for the long winter ahead.
8) Wild and scenic rivers.
In Alaska there are an abundance of wild and scenic rivers that offer incredible fishing and one-of-a-kind wildlife viewing. I bet you can go white water rafting on a few of them too, if you're brave.
