Eklutna Lake is located within the Chugach State Park in the Anchorage municipality.
Eklutna River flows in and out of this gorgeous lake. It's one mile wide, and seven miles long. The stunning color is from the glacier that feeds it, Eklutna Glacier.
Many people come from all over the state to play on the lake and in the area.
The waters are perfect for boating. You can bring your own boat in and launch it, or rent kayaks on site.
There are numerous stunning hiking trails.
You can find all skill levels, with nice, wide hiking paths. There are also some challenging hikes that ascend the mountain peaks that run along side the lake.
There is a campground for those who want to enjoy an entire weekend away.
The campground is run by the State Park. There are also plenty of trails for those wanting to take their ATV's out, or even their horses!
The lakeside trail can take you to two separate public use cabins.
You should definitely book these in advance, however. They tend to book up quickly! The one farthest away is about an eight mile hike. Many ride their bikes, or in the winter, ski all the way out to the cabin.
However you decide to enjoy Eklutna Lake, it will be the perfect retreat.
The calm, clear waters are tranquil and soothing. The reflections of the Chugach mountain range behind the lake are inspiring. A day or weekend at the lake is just what you may need!
