2016 was a monumental year for the Alaskan Brewing Co., located in Alaska’s picturesque capital city of Juneau. On September 1st, 2016, the fun and hardworking team at Alaskan Brewing Co. celebrated 30 years in business. But what we find most admirable is the story behind this company that started with just two people and grew to be a nationwide industry leader. Every occasion in life calls for a delicious refreshment, and Alaskan Brewing Co. always offers the perfect way to quench your thirst. Alaskans are proud of our award-winning local business!
Alaska Brewing Co. was founded in 1986 by Marcy and Geoff Larson, who still own the company today.
This beloved brewery was the 67th brewing company to open in the United States and it was actually the very first to open in Juneau since prohibition.
Back in the late 1980s there were less than 100 breweries operating in the United States and none in the Last Frontier.
But today, Alaskan Brewing Co. ranks 22 out of more than 4,300 craft breweries in the United States by volume.
These prized Alaskan Brewing Co. beers have won awards at regional, national and international beer competition levels.
Alaskan Brewing Co. typically produces seven year-round beers and four limited release seasonal ales.
They also produce several specialty beers with limited distribution each year. Beers so good that they're worthy of their own photo shoot.
Today, these mouthwatering beers are available in 18 states around the nation.
They include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Ohio.
Still doing business in the same building where they began operations in 1986 with just 2,000 square feet of space, today they have expanded to 47,000 square feet of space where they conduct all of their brewing, bottling and business operations.
They even have a gift shop and a tasting bar for all their loyal fans.
The next time you're in Juneau, be sure to look into Alaskan Brewing Co.'s next tasting event so you can sample all the goods and take a tour of the incredible facility.
The gigantic fermenters are a very cool part of the tour. It really puts into perspective the mass amounts of beer that they are brewing and shipping all over the country.
It's impossible to miss the rows upon rows of half-gallon beer kegs. With roughly 60,000 kegs worth around $125 each, the brewery's investment in kegs is one of its largest capital costs. What's even cooler is that they're made out of stainless steel and not aluminum.
What a monumental company Alaskan Brewing Co. is indeed! We are thankful to be able to enjoy their superior craft and we join the world in celebrating their 30th successful year in business. You make Alaska proud!
