There aren't many things that can beat a weekend road trip through Alabama. Several places are located throughout the state that are perfect for weekend visits. Listed below, we've included a mapped road trip route that'll take you to a few of these places. This road trip can easily be taken in a single weekend. You'll love exploring some of Alabama's most beautiful places via this road trip.
Your road trip will begin at Little River Canyon National Preserve in Fort Payne. Covering more than 15,000 acres, this preserve is one of Alabama's most beautiful outdoor spots. It offers a variety of features that nature enthusiasts simply can't get enough of, including one of the Southeast's most stunning waterfalls, Little River Falls (pictured).
After exploring Little River Canyon National Preserve, a great place to grab a bite to eat is Vintage 1889. Housed inside of the former W.B. Davis Hosiery Mill, Vintage 1889 is one of Fort Payne's most popular dining establishments. It's well known for its delicious gourmet burgers (pictured).
Following your meal, you'll walk on over to Big Mill Co. Artisans and Antiques, which is located inside of the same building. This antique shop sells everything from furniture to glassware to toys, etc.
After shopping, your next stop will be DeSoto Falls, which happens to be a part of DeSoto State Park in Mentone. This waterfall plunges 104 feet, making it one of Alabama's tallest waterfalls. One of the greatest things about this waterfall is that it can be accessed via a parking lot. No strenuous hike is required.
To end the day, you'll stay the night at the Mentone Inn Bed and Breakfast. This charming inn, which was built during the 1920s, is surrounded by lots of beautiful natural scenery and serves a delicious full breakfast.
To begin the next day, you'll explore Cheaha State Park in Delta. Covering nearly 3,000 acres, this state park is located atop on Cheaha Mountain and offers some of Alabama's most breathtaking views. A variety of recreational activities are offered for everyone, including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and more.
After spending the day exploring Cheaha State Park, you'll want to book an overnight stay in one of the park's historic cabins. You'll experience an incredible view from one of its bluff side cabins.
