Nothing beats a scenic drive through the beautiful state of Alabama, especially one that follows the majestic Coosa River. The Coosa River flows for about 280 miles and is one of the state's most developed rivers. Listed below, we've included a road trip that follows this river. It includes a few places that are either located right on the Coosa River or a few short miles from it. You'll want to stop and visit each one of them.

1. Riverwalk City Park - Gadsden
Your first stop will be Riverwalk City Park. Riverwalk City Park (The Riverwalk at Coosa Landing) is located in Gadsden and features a great boardwalk, in addition to several docks and piers for fishing. Here, you'll get a great view of the Coosa River.
2. Top O' the River - Gadsden
Your next stop will be at Top O' the River, which is also in Gadsden. This restaurant offers some of the best catfish and seafood around. Because it's located on the Coosa River, you'll experience great waterfront views during your meal.
3. Maraella Vineyards and Winery - Hokes Bluff
If you're a wine connoisseur, you'll love Maraella Vineyards and Winery, which happens to be your next stop. This wine destination is located in the tiny town of Hokes Bluff and is a definite must-visit for wine lovers.
After a scenic drive south, you'll arrive a Logan Martin Lake. This Alabama lake, which is 17,000 acres in size, is a reservoir that's located on the Coosa River about 30 miles east of Birmingham. It's a popular lake for bass fishing, in addition to swimming, boating, and skiing.
5. Kymulga Grist Mill Park - Alpine
Your next stop, which is right outside of Childersburg, will be Kymulga Grist Mill Park. This park was established in the 1860s and is home to a historic grist mill and covered bridge. It's a popular outdoor attraction, especially during the fall season.
6. Majestic Caverns - Childersburg
Following a short drive, you'll arrive at Majestic Caverns, which was formerly known as DeSoto Caverns. Located in Childersburg, Majestic Caverns is a series of caves and is often referred to as "Alabama's Big Cave." It offers cave tours, a campground, a variety of unique attractions, and so much more.
Your next stop will be the town of Wetumpka. Located on the Coosa River, this historic town has something for everyone, including a historic downtown with lots of great shops and restaurants.
8. Wetumpka Impact Crater - Wetumpka
While in Wetumpka, don't forget to stop and take a look at the town's famous impact crater. The Wetumpka Impact Crater is located east of downtown Wetumpka and is Alabama's only confirmed impact crater. It's believed to be around 85 million years old.
