With the official start of summer just a few weeks away, there's no better time than right now to start making plans. From gorgeous beaches to spectacular parks, many great places are located across Alabama that are perfect for visiting this time of year. Listed below are seven incredible places you'll want to add to your summer itinerary.
1. Gulf Coast Beaches
Here in Alabama, no summer vacation is complete without a trip to our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches. We're so fortunate to have access to some of the nation's most beautiful white-sand beaches, which belong on everyone's summer bucket list.
2. Cheaha State Park - Delta
With an elevation of 2,407 feet, Cheaha State Park, which is located atop Cheaha Mountain, is Alabama's highest natural point. It offers some of the most spectacular views you'll ever experience here in the Yellowhammer State.

3. Little River Canyon National Preserve - Fort Payne
Little River Canyon National Preserve is located atop Lookout Mountain and is one of Alabama's greatest outdoor destinations. Its main feature is Little River Falls, which is one of the state's most popular waterfalls. Address: 4322 Little River Trail, Fort Payne, AL, 35967.
4. Lake Guntersville
Covering 69,000 acres, Lake Guntersville is Alabama's largest lake. From boating and water skiing, to fishing and kayaking, this beautiful lake offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. Lake Guntersville, which is located on the banks of the Tennessee River, is the perfect place to spend a summer day.
5. Bellingrath Gardens and Home - Theodore
Bellingrath Gardens and Home features a 65-acre garden and lovely estate home. It's one of the South's best outdoor attractions and is the perfect place for a summer stroll. Address: 12401 Bellingrath Gardens Road, Theodore, AL, 36582.
6. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve - Pinson
Turkey Creek Nature Preserve covers nearly 500 acres and is considered one of Alabama's most beautiful nature areas. It's also home to one of the state's best swimming holes. Address: 3906 Turkey Creek Road, Pinson, AL, 35126.
7. Dismals Canyon - Phil Campbell
Dismals Canyon, which is located off the beaten path in rural North Alabama, covers 85 acres and is the perfect spot for a summer hike. In addition to it being home to one of Alabama's most beautiful waterfalls, it's also one of the few places in the world where you'll find a dismalite - a rare insect resembling a glowworm.
