There are many types of towns that help make up the great state of Alabama. One of them in particular is Elberta. Elberta is a unique town that welcomes thousands of visitors each year. According to several people, it's also the strangest town in Alabama. To learn all about the town of Elberta, including a few of the things that contribute to its strangeness, take a look below.
Elberta is a small Alabama town that's located in Baldwin County. Incorporated in 1952, it's also one of the state's strangest, yet quirkiest, places to visit.
A variety of places are in Elberta that contribute to its strangeness. One place in particular is Barber Marina. Barber Marina isn't strange on its own. What makes it strange is its number of quirky statues scattered throughout the property. These were commissioned by billionaire George Barber and are truly a sight to see.
One of the strangest statues is "Lady of the Lake." This fiberglass statue shows a giant woman's head and knees as they're emerging from the water.
One of the wackiest, yet creepiest, statues is a giant spider made from scrap metal.
There's even an alligator relaxing in the sun. You'll likely do a double take when you encounter this life-size statue because of the realness it exudes.
A few of Barber's statues are even tucked away in the nearby woods, including his famous "Dinosaurs in the Woods." This collection of four life-size dinosaurs will take you back to prehistoric times.
Another statue that's tucked away within the woods is Bamahenge. Bamahenge is a fiberglass replica of the world-famous Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England.
And finally, a visit to Elberta isn't complete without grabbing a bite to eat at Roadkill Cafe. No, this restaurant doesn't actually serve roadkill. However, with a strange name like Roadkill Cafe, you'll certainly want to stop and check it out.
