In this world there's definitely no shortage of amazing restaurants, and while most of these restaurants are easy to get to, others are more secluded and located off the beaten path. One restaurant, in particular, is the famed Kowaliga Restaurant in Alabama. This restaurant might be located off the beaten path, but its beautiful surroundings make it so worth the drive.
Kowaliga Restaurant is located in Alexander City, Alabama, on beautiful Lake Martin.
Since originally opening in 1953, Kowaliga Restaurant has served thousands of meals to people from far and wide.
In 1952, Hank Williams Jr. wrote a song about a poor, lonesome wooden Indian, which is based on the wooden Indian that once stood outside of the original restaurant.
Today, "Kowaliga the 4th," an iconic piece of the restaurant's history, stands inside the restaurant and greets the guests. It's also a popular spot to snap pictures.
This wooden Indian statue was carved by Cory Worden of Beneath the Bark.
Kowaliga Restaurant is a great place to dine with the entire family.
And no matter where you decide to dine, indoors or outside on the patio, you'll enjoy an incredible view of Lake Martin.
If you happen to live on Lake Martin and own a boat, you're in luck. In addition to arriving by car, you can also arrive to Kowaliga Restaurant by boat.
While dining at Kowaliga Restaurant, you'll experience the most stunning sunset.
