Many years ago when a war was going on, a young mother fled on foot from Oak Grove Plantation in Saraland, Alabama. She was carrying her baby as she ran to escape the soldiers chasing her. The baby wouldn't stop crying, so the mother had to think of something quickly to get it to stop.

Spanning a creek, this bridge ended up being a great hiding spot for the mother and her baby. Well, underneath it that is.
The mother hid underneath this bridge, and when her baby wouldn't stop crying, she put its face down into the water. Sadly, the baby drowned.
Today, it's not uncommon to hear cries from this bridge. Whether you visit during the day or night, chances are you'll hear cries. These cries are believed to be from the baby that drowned there. This is how the bridge earned its nickname "Cry Baby Bridge."
