Situated off Highway 32, it's one of the state's quirkiest roadside attractions.
People have been known to drive many miles to visit this unique zoo. What makes it stand out among other Alabama zoos is the fact that its animals aren't real. Instead, they're uniquely-shaped rocks that have been painted to resemble animals.
The Rock Zoo got its start in the 1970s. A large boulder ended up on Leonard Dawson's farm. For fun, he painted it to look just like a rooster.
Since then, dozens of other animals have been added to the Rock Zoo, including bulls, bears, frogs, and even...
...sea creatures.
