Summers in Alabama are so hot you could fry an egg in the palm of your hand. Which might be useful if you are in need of a quick snack, but not very fun if you are trying to keep cool. There’s no better way to cool off from the summer heat than by taking a dip in Lake Martin, Alabama’s most beautiful lake. Lake Martin has some of the clearest and most pristine water of all the lakes in Alabama. Some might say it's one of the south’s greatest lakes. We'll let you decide.
With an area of more than 41,000 acres, Lake Martin is one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States.
Lake Martin is located on the Tallapoosa River (pictured), in Tallapoosa, Elmore, and Coosa counties.
The Tallapoosa River is 265 miles long and has four hydroelectric dams: Yates Dam, Thurlow Dam, Martin Dam, and R.L. Harris Dam.
A few of Lake Martin's most popular recreational activities include boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and paddleboarding.
Speaking of swimming, Lake Martin's most popular swimming spot is Acapulco Rock Island. On hot summer days, it's not uncommon to see many swimmers and cliff jumpers at this famous landmark.
If recreational activities aren't really your thing, no worries. Lake Martin is the perfect place for ultimate relaxation. Just pick a spot along the shore of the lake and enjoy an incredible view of its clear and pristine water.
Lake Martin is beautiful during all four seasons, especially fall. So, if you're unable to visit Lake Martin in the summer, be sure to swing by in the fall to enjoy the beautiful fall colors.
As the day comes to an end, there's nothing more beautiful than the sunset reflecting off Lake Martin's clear and pristine water.
As you can see, Lake Martin does indeed have some of the clearest and most pristine water in Alabama. It comes as no surprise this beautiful lake is one of Alabama’s top swimming spots. After all, with such clear and pristine water, why wouldn’t it be?
