Alabama is no stranger when it comes to paranormal activity. In fact, one of the most haunted places in America, the Jemison Center, is located right here in the Yellowhammer State. To learn all about the Jemison Center, including examples of paranormal activity many people have experienced there, take a look below.
The Jemison Center, also known as Old Bryce Hospital, is located in Northport, Alabama.
This former psychiatric hospital opened in the early 20th century and housed patients until 1977. Today, it's abandoned and covered in plant growth.
According to several reports, while the Jemison Center was still open, patients were treated horribly. In fact, many of its African American patients were forced to work on nearby plantations for free. Feces were also smeared across the hospital's walls. The Jemison Center has even been compared to a concentration camp.
Over the years, the Jemison Center has gained a lot of attention because of its haunting reputation. Numerous people have explored the interior of this abandoned hospital, which is sadly covered in graffiti, and have reported lots of paranormal activity.
A few examples of paranormal activity many people have reported include the sounds of disembodied voices, screams, footsteps, and creaking doors. Some have even reported their hair being pulled, being hit, and discovering scratches on themselves after leaving.
If you do decide to visit the Jemison Center, keep in mind you'll be trespassing. Because it's in disrepair, it's considered very unsafe. Also, there's usually law enforcement patrolling the area. If you're wanting to see the Jemison Center, the best, and safest, thing to do is view it from the road.
