1. Lake Guntersville
Lake Guntersville, located between the cities of Bridgeport and Guntersville, covers 69,000 acres - making it Alabama's largest lake. If you choose to visit Lake Guntersville this summer, a few of the recreational activities you'll have the chance to enjoy include swimming, boating, water skiing, jet skiing and fishing.
2. Lewis Smith Lake
Lewis Smith Lake (Smith Lake) is located on the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River and covers more than 21,000 acres. It's a popular lake spot for families and friends to gather on the weekends. Water skiing, jet skiing and boating are popular recreational activities enjoyed by many on Smith Lake.
3. Lake Martin
Lake Martin is located in Tallapoosa, Elmore and Coosa counties and covers 44,000 acres. It's one of the largest manmade lakes in the United States, in addition to being a popular recreation area for boating, swimming and water skiing.
4. Lake Eufaula
Lake Eufaula covers 45,000 acres and is located along the border of southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama. This beautiful lake is best known as the "Bass Fishing Capital of the World" because of its incredible fishing opportunities.
5. Jordan Lake
Jordan Lake, located in Elmore County, is a fisherman's dream. This incredible lake offers several fishing opportunities for a variety of fish, including largemouth bass, spotted bass, striped bass, crappie, catfish, etc.
6. Weiss Lake
Weiss Lake, located in Cherokee County, covers 30,200 acres and is best known as the "Crappie Capital of the World." If you plan to do any fishing this summer, check out Weiss Lake. It's one of Alabama's best bass fishing locations.
7. Lake Lurleen
Lake Lurleen, located near Tuscaloosa, was named after Lurleen Wallace - Alabama's only female governor. Popular recreational activities include swimming, boating and fishing.
8. Lake Wedowee
Lake Wedowee, located in Randolph County, covers 10,660 acres and includes a variety of recreational activities such as boating, swimming and fishing. Because of its quality of water and number of bass, Lake Weiss is considered to be one of the best lakes in the Southeast.
9. Neely Henry Lake
Neely Henry Lake, located near Gadsden, is another Alabama lake that offers excellent fishing opportunities for a variety of fish, including striped bass, white bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, etc.
10. Pickwick Lake
Pickwick Lake, located in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, covers 43,100 acres and is well known for smallmouth bass and Tennessee River Catfish. This is another great lake to visit if you plan to do any fishing this summer.
