There are many charming small towns in Alabama, including several that are located on the state's beautiful Gulf Coast. One of the best ways to experience these towns is to take a road trip. Listed below is a road trip route that'll take you to six of Alabama's most charming coastal towns. 1. Gulf Shores
Your road trip will begin in Gulf Shores. This charming coastal town, which is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, is located in Baldwin County and is one of Alabama's top vacation spots. This adorable, small Alabama town is a favorite for a reason (or ten) - come see all the reasons why!
2. Foley
Following a short drive, you'll arrive at our next destination: beautiful Foley. Like Gulf Shores, Foley is also located in Baldwin County, and you know what that means: it, too, is intensely beautiful. This town is home to the Foley Railroad Museum, which is one of Alabama's most popular attractions among train enthusiasts (and even non-train enthusiasts).
3. Magnolia Springs
Your next stop will be Magnolia Springs, which is also located in Baldwin County. What makes this small town in Alabama so unique, other than its magnificent tunnel of trees, is the fact that it's the only town in the U.S. that has a year-round mail delivery service by water. If you're a lover of all things quaint and lovely, you'll be a big fan of Magnolia Springs.
4. Fairhope
Following a short drive north, you'll arrive in Fairhope. Located on the eastern shore of Alabama's Mobile Bay, this coastal town, which is also located in Baldwin County, is an absolute must-visit if you're interested in taking a weekend getaway. Fun fact: Fairhope is often called the most walkable town in Alabama, and we're inclined to agree.
5. Daphne
Your next stop will be Daphne, which, like the previous towns, is also located in Baldwin County. Known as "The Jubilee City," Daphne is a great destination for anyone who loves the outdoors because it offers everything from parks and preserves to beaches and trails. It won't take long to see why this one is often referred to as the most naturally beautiful town in Alabama.
6. Dauphin Island
And finally, after driving for about an hour, you'll arrive at Dauphin Island. Over the years, this Mobile County town, which is known as the "Sunset Capital of Alabama," has become a popular vacation destination. It's also the state's southernmost point! Honestly, all of Alabama is absolutely beautiful, but there's just something about the beach towns that really gets us.
