1. DeSoto State Park, which happens to be one of the best state parks in Alabama, covers more than 3,500 acres and is located atop of Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne. It's a wonderful place for a day trip.
2. This beautiful state park offers more than 25 miles of scenic trails for both mountain biking and hiking.
3. Speaking of hiking, one of DeSoto State Park's most popular hiking trails is the Talmadge Butler Boardwalk Trail, which has a length of 360 yards and is easily accessible by everyone. It's also one of the most scenic hiking trails in Alabama.
4. DeSoto State Park is home to five stunning waterfalls, including Indian Falls, Laurel Falls, Lost Falls, Lodge Falls, and of course its most famous waterfall of all, DeSoto Falls (pictured). DeSoto Falls plunges 107 feet and is one of the South's most recognizable waterfalls.
