I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
It’s no secret we have a major crush on covered bridges here at OnlyInYourState, and Ohio is a wonderful place to be if you’re as enchanted by these historic structures as us. There are some truly remarkable covered bridges in Ohio; these places make for fantastic day trips or road trip detours. But that’s not all: in Union County, there’s an event called Dine on a Covered Bridge that invites folks to come for an entire day of tours, wining, and dining, in Central Ohio! Can you think of a more memorable or romantic date than dining on a covered bridge in Ohio?
This is the Pottersburg Covered Bridge. It's located in Union County, Ohio, spans 94 feet, and was built in 1873.
This bridge was formerly the location of the North Lewisburg Road Covered Bridge. When Honda built their North American headquarters nearby, the one-lane bridge was unable to handle the increase in traffic. To save the bridge, it was moved on a trailer to a nearby "rails to trails" project. Today, the Pottersburg bridge is now part of a 1.9-mile paved multi-purpose trail...
Offered through Union County Tourism, these events not only allow for a night of wining and dining on a covered bridge; they take guests an adventure through some of the most charming and beautiful areas and attractions in central Ohio.
Climb aboard a whimsical trolley and you'll be whisked away on a covered bridge tour de force, passing through Buck Run Covered Bridge, Spain Creek Covered Bridge, North Lewisburg Covered Bridge, and your final destination: Pottersburg Covered Bridge. More on that in a moment...
...because before arriving at your dining destination (on a covered bridge in Ohio!!), you'll first get to enjoy a tour of a Buckeye State winery or brewery of your choice. (When booking, you'll choose a "host" winery/brewery from where to depart.)
Fun fact: Union County is home to award-winning wineries and breweries specializing in locally grown ingredients -- the area's clay soil mix is perfect for growing grapes, while the Midwest weather we all love-hate actually makes for optimal grape growing conditions!
Of course, Ohio is also known for its fertile farmland, and when you arrive at Pottersburg Bridge, expect a fabulous farm-to-table dining experience. If you opt for a lunch date, enjoy mouthwatering sandwiches from Amish Heritage Country Market; those dining at dusk will be treated to beautiful dishes c/o The Syndicate.
Enjoying a leisurely meal from the warm wood "belly" of a charming covered bridge in central Ohio... I really can't imagine anything better. And the cherry on top? Upon return to the host winery, you'll receive a drink ticket for the perfect capper to a truly memorable date!
Visit the Union County Tourism page for information on upcoming Dine on a Covered Bridge events and to reserve tickets. After such a memorable experience, don’t be in a hurry to leave this charming part of Ohio! This Historic Loft in Uptown Marysville sounds like the perfect place to steal away for the night.
