Minnesota is full of unique museums. We have a Greyhound Bus Museum, a museum of electricity, and even a small-town museum dedicated to one man’s lifetime of treasures. But there are plenty of other interesting spots to while away an afternoon. One of our favorites happens to be the one-of-a-kind SPAM Museum in Austin, Minnesota. This place is unlike anywhere else in the nation, and that makes it a place all Minnesotans should visit at least once. Read on below to learn more about this fun spot:
The SPAM Museum is in Austin, Minnesota, a small city about 100 miles south of Minneapolis, or 40 miles southwest of Rochester. It’s a fun destination for those looking to spend time in southern Minnesota.
Free to visit, the SPAM Museum has surprisingly a lot to offer. You can take a guided or self-guided tour through the 14,000 square feet of interesting displays.
As you walk through the exhibits, you’ll discover the interesting history of Hormel, the company that created SPAM. You’ll discover SPAM’s place in world history, including its importance to soldiers during World War II.
Food lovers will be interested in the international sections, which put SPAM uses around the world on display. You’ll find new ways to enjoy SPAM from across the globe!
Photo opportunities, a gift shop full of fun SPAM-themed products, and plenty of video displays round out the museum experience. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind spot that you’ll only find in Minnesota, head to Austin to visit the SPAM Museum!
There are other interactive elements throughout the nine galleries. People of all ages, from all walks of life, will find something to interest them here.
