When people in other parts of the country think of the coolest state in the country, they're probably thinking about places like New York with its big city vibe, or California with its cool surfers and celebrities around every corner. What they don't know is that South Dakota is secretly the coolest state in America. Here's why:
1. There's nothing cooler than 740,000 dudes on motorcycles.
The tiny town of Sturgis turns into the coolest place on the planet every year over the first week in August. Dudes (both male and female) bring their bikes for the biggest party in the country.
2. When we make outdoor art, we go big. Very, very big.
It's not enough just to make a few statues of Presidents... we carve their faces into the side of a mountain and make them 60 feet tall.
3. Of course, we have some pretty cool Presidents in other places, too.
Stroll through downtown Rapid City to see some of the most amazing bronze statues of our past Presidents. Each one captures the man's unique personality and legacy.
4. In fact, we like to create art pretty much everywhere.
In Rapid City, you'll find Art Alley, where even the dumpsters are colorful and interesting.
5. We even make corn cool.
Only in South Dakota can you make corn into an artistic work of art that covers an entire building. Willie Nelson depicted in corn? Yep... cool.
6. Our history is the coolest ever.
Don't believe me? Head to Deadwood where you'll find some of the coolest characters the country ever knew.
7. Even our ghosts are cool.
Seth Bullock, the first Sheriff in Lawrence County, built the Bullock Hotel in 1895. He's still hanging around, making sure that his beloved hotel is operating smoothly. Bullock is just one of many ghosts you'll find in Deadwood.
8. You'll find a waterfall right in the heart of our biggest city.
The Big Sioux River runs right through the heart of town, and Falls Park is easily one of the most beautiful city parks in the country. Not many places can say they have a park as cool as this.

9. In South Dakota, Bad is good. Very, very good.
Where else can you find the stunning natural beauty of Badlands National Park? This place IS bad — in the best possible way.
