Editor's note: On Jan. 1, 2018, Marshside Mama's will be closing its doors. We're very sad to lose this South Carolina gem.
When it comes to remote restaurants, you can't get much further away from civilization in South Carolina than on an island you can only get to by boat. And that's exactly where you'll find one of the most out-of-the-way eateries in the Palmetto State.
Marshside Mama's Cafe is located on the Southwestern side of Daufuskie Island, the next island south of Hilton Head Island, and getting there is only part of the adventure.
You could choose to bring your own boat, or you can catch a convenient ferry from either Hilton Head or Savannah.
I'll take that second option, please. There are several ferry operators and you can easily find one if you Google "Daufuskie Island ferry service." Or, better still, Marshside Mamas' website has a list of ferrys you can check out here.
Marshside Mama's location may be a little unconventional, but this unique destination restaurant in South Carolina is so worth the journey!
Visitors rave about the food as well as the breathtaking views. This Oyster Po-Boy looks amazing!
In fact, the whole menu looks incredible. For a bowl of southern soul taste, try the gumbo.
You'll be impressed with the friendly service as well as the delicious fare.
Whether you're just a fan of fresh seafood or an adrenaline junkie looking for your next adventure, Marshside Mama's on Daufuskie Island is a one-of-a-kind experience.
Since you're making a special journey over to the island, dinner reservations are required at Marshside Mama's. Fall 2016 hours posted on their website are: Lunch - Tuesday through Saturday from Noon - 3:00 p.m. Dinner - Wednesday through Saturday 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Sunday Brunch - 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Have you heard of Marshside Mama's? Would you take a ferry to get to this amazing eatery on Daufuskie Island? We'd love to know in our comments!
