Living in Rhode Island means having easy access to some beautiful beaches, something we should never take for granted. Middletown's Sachuest Beach is especially delightful, offering a peaceful escape from downtown Newport. And in this case, the journey is almost as much fun as the destination.
Sachuest Beach is a south-facing, mile-long, family-friendly beach in Middletown.
To the locals, it's mostly known as Second Beach.
To reach the beach, park on Sachuest Point Road near Second Beach Family Campground and find a long, sandy path.
It's a short jaunt, but it's quite pleasant.
The scenery at Second Beach is a bit more rugged than the neighboring Easton’s Beach.
And the lack of retail or commercial outlets of any kind make it seem like a more secluded spot.
This is a popular beach in the summertime, when Rhode Islanders flock to the shoreline for beach fun.
The beach is equipped with restrooms, showers, a changing area, a concessions stand, and grills for everyone's enjoyment.
You'll probably see surfers and paddle boarders on any given day here (when the weather is warm).
Surfboard rentals and lessons are available during the peak season.
This beach has perfect waves, a flat, sandy shoreline, and views for days.
It's really no wonder the locals love it.
Rhode Island is called the Ocean State, and there are certainly no shortage of beaches here... but this one really stands out.
There's nothing like a sunset stroll at Sachuest Beach.
Is this one of your favorite beaches? Do you refer to it as Sachuest Beach, or will this always be Second Beach to you? Whatever its name may be, Rhode Islanders are certainly lucky to have it.
