Oregon gets plenty of attention for the livability of its cities, particularly Portland. But fewer people know about Beaverton, a smaller culinary hub that has been deemed one of the best places to live in the entire country by Money Magazine. Learn more about why you might want to consider making this town your next stop.
Located just seven miles west of Portland, Beaverton consists of twenty square miles of the Tualatin River Valley. With just under 100,000 residents, it’s the sixth largest city in the entire state of Oregon. What makes Beaverton stand out are the well-planned, family-friendly neighborhoods combined with its unforgettable scenery so characteristic of the Pacific Northwest.
The city is home to 100 parks, offering residents plenty of green space amidst a busy downtown, commercial areas, and shopping districts. These parks are beautifully maintained and provide hiking with unforgettable views. In fact, there’s a park located no more than 1/2 a mile away from every home in Beaverton.
The location of Beaverton lends itself to plenty of recreational opportunities. Not only are there over 30 miles of hiking trails and 25 miles of biking trails, there are also ski slopes to the east of the town and ocean front to the west. Beaverton is also known for headquartering Nike, whose beautiful campus could easily entertain you for an entire day.

As mentioned before, dining is a huge part of the Beaverton lifestyle. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, all with a diverse flair and flavor. And with that comes quality produce, festivals, and a strong sense community. Some events hosted by the city include the Night Market, Beaverton International Celebration, Picnics in the Park, and Flicks by the Fountain.
One of the primary reasons folks are choosing Beaverton as their residence is because of the affordable housing. The median home price is approximately $320,000 and the corresponding property tax here is 15% less than what is paid in Portland. And when you remember that Oregon also has no sales tax, you can start to envision a little extra spending money.
So whether you’re just in town for a visit or are considering moving to a new town in Oregon, you’ll definitely cherish your time spent in this charming, bustling spot.
