All Oklahomans have their favorite lakes - and with more than 2,000 to choose from - they most likely never get to see all of them. With that in mind, we set out to find 11 beautiful lesser-known lakes in Oklahoma that we think everyone should visit in summer 2016. For a magical summer full of fun, laughter and memories, head out to these lakes in the Sooner State for an unforgettable experience.

1. Fort Gibson Lake, Gibson

Nestled in the hills of eastern Oklahoma, Fort Gibson offers over 225 miles of shoreline for outdoor enjoyment. From fishing to swimming to boating, all the favorite lake activities can be experienced at this stunning lake.

2. Lake Tenkiller, Cookson

Formed by the damning of the Illinois River in eastern Oklahoma, Lake Tenkiller is known as one of the best places to go scuba diving in the state due to its clear waters. There are two diving pro shops on the lake for all your scuba diving needs.

3. Lake Oologah, Oologah

Lake Oologah is one of the most popular lakes in the state for sailing due to its wide open stretches of water. The surrounding area is a beautiful area for hiking, biking and enjoying the great outdoors.

4. Arcadia Lake, Edmond

Oklahoma City and Edmond are glad to have Arcadia Lake within the city limits for residents to enjoy all the lake activities. This little oasis in the city is surrounded by a country, woodland atmosphere.

5. Lake Wayne Wallace, Wilburton

Surrounded by the beauty of Robbers Cave State Park, Lake Wayne Wallace is the perfect place to unwind from the business of life. Hike the San Bois Mountains, fish for channel catfish and largemouth bass, or take a relaxing boat ride.

6. Okmulgee and Dripping Springs Lake, Okmulgee

Okmulgee and Dripping Springs Lake and Recreation Area are two beautiful park areas hidden in the massive oak trees of Okmulgee. The Okmulgee Lake is 668 acres and the Dripping Springs Lake boasts 1,150 acres. Both lakes offer all the recreational activities, along with camping and R.V. facilities.

7. Veteran's Lake, Sulphur

Located inside the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Veteran's Lake is another hidden gem inside the area. It allows for small boats, fishing, and hiking. Pack a picnic and head out to this beautiful 67-acre lake named after American war veterans.

8. Lake Altus-Lugert, Lone Wolf

Lake Altus-Lugert is a recreational haven for southwestern Oklahoma. Located next to Quart Mountain Lodge, the lake activity options are endless.

9. Lake Thunderbird, Norman

This beautiful lake is located inside Lake Thunderbird State Park and features two marinas and two swim beaches. You'll also find nine boat ramps and 200 RV sites.

10. Kerr Lake, Sallisaw

With over 250 miles of rugged shoreline, Robert S. Kerr Reservoir is a breathtaking setting in Cookson Hills. The lake offers everything from swimming beaches to concession stands.

11. Lake Carlton, Wilburton

Another gem of Robbers Cave State Park is the stunning Lake Carlton. This small lake only has 2 miles of shoreline but the peaceful setting make it worth a visit. Rent pedal boats or canoes for a leisurely afternoon activity, while enjoying the rocky bluffs surrounded by pine, cedar and hardwoods.
