North Dakota is considered one of the best places to retire - if you don't mind the winter, but many retirees choose to head south for those months - due to the quiet, peaceful living many cities and towns offer. Couple that with a low cost of living and plenty of great lakes to fish at, and this state can be pretty great for retirement. Niche.com used multiple factors like that to rank the top 10 best cities in North Dakota to retire in, and here they are:
10. Mandan
Starting off the ranking is Mandan, with 215 sunny days per year on average and a good amount of amenities and nearby attractions. Mandan is quiet while still being plenty big, and a great place to retire.
9. Minot
Ranking 9th on the list is Minot. With a lower cost of living but also low crime rates, you can feel safe here while enjoying all Minot has to offer.
8. West Fargo
West Fargo ranks 8th when it comes to a good place to retire. Both here and Fargo are loaded with things to do, but West Fargo offers a quieter, less busy area conveniently located near everything.
7. Dickinson
Dickinson has access to many local amenities and offers a peaceful place to sit back and enjoy the rest of your life, ranking it 7th on the list.
6. Williston
Williston comes in at 6th on the list. While it was bustling a few years ago, things have slowed down. There are plenty of options for fun ways to fill your time and just take it easy, and a pleasant amount of 223 sunny days per year on average.
5. Wahpeton
Wahpeton has the small town feel but the big city amenities that make it a perfect place to retire and earns it the rank of 5th on the list. There is plenty to do while also being close to great fishing and other activities.
4. Bismarck
The state capital comes in at 4th in the rank. 15% of the population is over the age of 65 and just about everything is available in Bismarck while not being too crowded.
3. Jamestown
Entering the top three, Jamestown comes 3rd with access to everything you need and a peaceful setting to surround you in, it's perfect to enjoy your retirement at.

2. Devils Lake
Other than the great lake access to one of North Dakota's top fishing spots, Devils Lake is perfect for retirement. 20% of the population is 65 years and older, the cost of living is relatively low, and the crime rate is, too. This plus other ease of living factors make Devils Lake the second best place to retire.
1. Valley City
The City of Bridges ranks number one on the list. Retirees can find everything they need here as well as a beautiful, calm setting. Valley City offers the perfect bridge into retirement.
