Fort Peck Reservoir is a prime example of Eastern Montana's treasures, and this is one place you'll certainly want to see.
Fort Peck Reservoir is located on the edge of the town of Fort Peck, about 20 miles from Glasgow.
The lake sits right off of State Highway 24, so for those in Eastern Montana, it's an easy roadside stop.
This is the the fifth-largest manmade reservoir in the United States, and it's truly spectacular.
It's so enormous that you may feel like you're standing at the edge of the ocean at times.
Fort Peck Lake has a rich blue hue that's especially inviting on a warm summer day.

The dam and reservoir were built in the 1930s to enhance navigation on the Missouri River.
Severe flooding along the Missouri River in 1943 hampered the economic development of the Missouri River Valley and interfered with the production of military supplies for World War II, so five more dams were added.

There are 27 designated recreation sites along Fort Peck Lake's massive shoreline, making it a top attraction for those living in Eastern Montana. The Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge also borders the lake.
Plenty of people also venture over from North and South Dakota to check out the reservoir in all its glory.
