Step back in time with a visit to the Grand Village of the Natchez! Spanning more than 100 acres, the incredible site is brimming with history, which comes in the form of Native American mounds, a Natchez Indian house, museum, and more. Take a look:
Antebellum mansions aren’t the only grand sites from yesteryear that you’ll find in Natchez. There’s also the Grand Village of the Natchez.
Brimming with history, the 128-acre site features three prehistoric Native American mounds, a reconstructed Natchez Indian house, nature trail, museum, and gift shop.
Start your tour of the village at the museum, where you’ll find all sorts of exhibits and artifacts. You’ll also have the opportunity to watch a short video about the Natchez tribe.
From the museum, you can explore the grounds at your leisure.
One of the most notable features is the reconstructed Natchez Indian house.
Though not authentically historic, it provides a unique glimpse into the past.
The grounds also include three prehistoric mounds, two of which have been excavated and rebuilt to their original shapes and sizes. The third mound, the Abandoned Mound, has only been partially excavated.
Informative signage dots the site, providing information on the mounds as well as the Natchez tribe.
Don't forget to make a pass through the gift shop before you depart. In addition to books and other informative material, the shop is stocked with Native American crafts.
Free to visit, the Grand Village of the Natchez is open Tuesday – Saturday, from 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. For more information, call (601) 446-6502.
