Anyone who's ever been to Yellowstone knows that the park's beauty is unlike anything else in the world. From the mountains to the geysers to the wildlife, there is endless awe-inspiring nature to behold. While the Land of 10,000 Lakes doesn't have quite as many dramatic landscapes as Yellowstone, our state is home to more than a few beautiful nature areas. One, in particular, is often nicknamed the "Little Yellowstone of Minnesota" thanks to its beauty and size. Read on to learn what you'll discover when you visit Minnesota's Yellowstone at Alexander Ramsey Park in Redwood Falls:
Alexander Ramsey Park is a large park in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. At 210 acres in area, it is the largest municipal park in Minnesota. The park's nickname is the "Little Yellowstone of Minnesota."
Just like the real Yellowstone, there's a lot to do at Alexander Ramsey Park. There are 4 miles of paved hiking trails. They run along the beautiful forests, bridges, and streams of this huge park.
Speaking of streams, Alexander Ramsey Park is home to a trout stream that, if you're an angler, gives you a perfect excuse to cast a line.
Another wonderful attraction at Alexander Ramsey Park is the zoo! It's full of Minnesota animals, such as deer and elk, as well as farm critters like pigs and goats. They may not be the wild animals of Yellowstone, but they are still fun for the whole family!
Once you're done hiking, fishing, and meeting animals, you may want to rest. Unpack a picnic in the large, beautiful picnic shelter. Or head back to your campsite - rates start at $5 a night - to cook something over a fire.
Once you're all rested up, it's time to go explore the main attraction! This enormous park is home to one of the prettiest waterfalls in southern Minnesota. Ramsey Falls tumbles over a rugged cliff into a large pool of rapids below.
The waterfall is absolutely beautiful in every season, even when it is frozen.
