Let’s face it: this year has been anything but predictable. As we look ahead to the chillier months, though, there’s a small sense of comfort in our ability to prepare for the arrival of winter weather. While most Michiganders aren’t quite ready to face the reality that colder temperatures are right around the corner, the folks at the Farmers’ Almanac have already issued their projections for the 2020-2021 winter season.
We Michiganders are no strangers to cold and snowy conditions, having muddled through our fair share of blizzards and winter storms here in the Great Lakes State.
Whether you’re a bonafide farmer or a city dweller, you’ve likely taken note of Farmers’ Almanac predictions throughout the years - particularly when it comes to winter.
After all, the publication has offered long-range temperature and precipitation projections since 1818. This year is no exception, and Michiganders should prepare to bundle up.
According to the Almanac, the Great Lakes Region is in for its fair share of winter weather during the coming months, with conditions described as “cold and very flaky.”
This means that Michigan is due for plenty of snowfall, so be sure to pull your shovels out of storage. Temps are expected to dip into the below-average range.
You might find consolation in the fact that winter will be even more temperamental in other parts of the country, particularly in states like Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.
For some Michiganders, of course, these wintertime predictions aren’t all bad. After all, our state offers ample opportunities for ice skating, sledding, skiing, and more.
