Kentucky has some beautiful land with flourishing cities, and knowing your community of choice is a good idea. You can move with confidence, appreciating the security of knowing your family is in a safe neighborhood. The FBI, unbeknownst to some, creates a list of reported crimes in each state organized by city. This data is often utilized by those in real estate, but it can also give us incredible insight into the type of community we might move into.
There are actually some cities in the Bluegrass that have very little or no crime at all. However, the list below is based on 10,000+ residents in the city/town versus the FBI’s number of reported crimes committed in 2013, including robbery, rape, arson, murder, property crime, larceny, and auto theft. With those figures, here are the 10 safest places in Kentucky based on the population:
Cloverport (1159), Earlington (1407), Albany (2032), Gamaliel (369), Jenkins (2131), Trenton (392) and Adairville (840) all made the list with "0" crimes reported for 2013. That in itself deserves mention. They were the only cities in Kentucky to do so…
With almost 30 thousand residents, Elizabethtown had an astounding 35 violent crimes reported. These are great numbers for such a big population, keeping it on the list of secure communities to consider. Plus, it's a beautiful place to call home, like most of the others on this list.
There were only 342 total crimes from a population of 14,743, with 32 being violent. That may sound high, but the majority were property related crimes.
There were only 338 reported crimes in a population of 14,117, with 30 being violent. That could be considered astounding for the town’s size and the types of crimes included. Right away, one gets a very traditional feel when in the heart of this city.
This beautiful town of 14,331 only had 11 violent crimes, making it even better than Bardstown as a peaceful place to call home. None of the crimes committed were murder.
With a population of 12,916 and only 13 violent crimes in 2013, it is hard not to like Bardstown. The preserved area of the town just gives people a down home community feel and the impression that violence is unnecessary.
There were only 116 crimes committed in this peaceful community of 11,080, 17 of which were violent. Lawrenceburg just makes people want to relax and smell the flowers.
In 2013, this pleasant community had only 9 violent crimes. For a city of 16,227, that is pretty impressive.
Home is where the heart is, and Kentucky, along with its people, has a lot of heart. If you are thinking of making a move to the Bluegrass State, evaluate the community. Visit some of the local diners, shops, and chat with the locals. You will find friendly people ready to chat about the beauty of the land, in most cases, and you'll easily be able to tell which are the best places to live in Kentucky. Please do not misinterpret, there are plenty of other safe places to live all across the state that are NOT listed. These types of places are my personal favorites, so let's dive into what makes this one of the best cities in Kentucky.

Every good, charming city has to have a good downtown, and that is one thing you are sure to love about Bowling Green. There are lots of sights, tastes, and unique attractions just waiting to be discovered by simply walking or driving around. Take a break on a sunny day in one of the parks to enjoy a gurgling fountain, or take a stroll down the inviting green spaces just waiting to be explored. Throughout the city, you will find lovely one-of-a-kind shops and must-eat restaurants, all nestled into the historical nature of this Kentucky city.

Perhaps one of my favorite parts of this city is its close proximity to Mammoth Cave National Park. You can easily take a drive up to the park to spend the day adventuring in this underground wonderland. There are multiple tours and ways to see the longest cave in the world, so you can even go back time and time again to experience something different every time.
Historic Entrance and Rain-Fed Waters. A location I’d read and seen from others in their images about this famous cave entrance in Mammoth Cave National Park. It was only in seeing it that I really began to appreciate the wonder of a place to not just be explored but also a subtleness of beauty. In most of my past national park travels, I’d walked amongst the mountains with the grand views seen. Here I had what amounted to a simple cave entrance but on the next day, I’d see a hint of what lied beyond the stairs to the image right…
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention another glorious cave even closer: The Lost River Cave. This unique cave trip takes guests on a boat ride underground on tours! Learn all about the cave, which is filled with fascinating history, from the hideout of Jess James to ancient hunting grounds. Above ground, there is also plenty to see and do, from a butterfly house to hiking trails.
If you are a car expert or have a casual interest in automobiles, then start your engines and head over to the National Corvette Museum. This Kentucky city isn’t the original home of this vehicle, but they built it best, so come and see the wide range of history centered around the Corvette. This fascinating museum has been recognized as one of the top attractions in the state, and for good reason. See how this sports car has changed over the years, walk through multiple pop culture appearances, and even check out a sinkhole exhibit showing an event that took place on the property years ago.
If you are not ready to take the plunge and move just yet, that is ok. If you want to visit the city and check it out, then I have a great home base to recommend it to you. The Raceway Cabin is the perfect place to hang your hat as you explore all there is to see and do in Bowling Green. The property is located minutes away from many of the attractions and is a unique stay within city limits. The pioneer look of the cabin is fitting in this part of the world, but inside, you will find plenty of up-to-date amenities, including cool features like an outdoor shower and a spiral staircase. Why visit the city in a boring hotel when you can rent out this Airbnb to really get the true Bowling Green experience?
Bowling Green Kentucky is a city that is neither too big nor too small but has the Goldilocks factor we all love. So dive into this city with both feet to see amazing urban parks, wonderful attractions, and cool sights. If you happen to be making your trip in the summer don’t forget the seasonally opened theme park that is a local favorite. Beech Bend has been open for decades and is a great family day trip when you visit Bowling Green.
