Georgians have a ton of state pride, and rightly so. There are so many wonderful things about this great state, it's hard not to have an intense fondness for this place. With that fondness however, comes strange habits which even some Georgians might not even know are habits in the first place. Take a look at a few strange habits Georgians may possess that they will defend to the death.
1. Saying hello to strangers.
Yes, Georgian’s talk to strangers, it’s just in our nature. We’re friendly and we like to strike up conversation. So the next time you think we’re being weird, we really are just being kind. So…deal with it.
2. Make a sandwich without meat or cheese.
The famed ‘Mater sandwich. It’s delicious. It’s a time-honored tradition. It is not your average sandwich, because well—there is no deli meat inside. Or cheese.
3. Constantly open new places throughout the state…
There are always new places popping up through the state of Georgia, whether it be restaurants, shops, bars or the like. New spots seem to show up with every rise of the sun, which does help keep things interesting for the residents.
4. But never give up on the old tried-and-true places either…
Really, it's those old spots in Georgia that deserve all the love and recognition. If you don't believe us, just look at the line that continuously forms for Mrs. Wilkes Restaurant.
5. Seasonally become drawn to the closest body of water.
When spring and summer roll around, Georgians flock to the nearest body of water, and rightly so. Whether it be the closest swimming hole, nearest beach, or lake, you'll always see it packed.
6. Rep their local businesses hard.
Georgia is one of the top places in the country to open a new business, and the amount of local businesses which give it a go are seemingly endless. But we can't complain because that just means strengthening our state economy while also keeping things local!
7. Use how hot it is to break the ice or start a conversation.
The insanely high temperatures in Georgia during the end of summer are usually a great way to start a conversation with a neighbor, a stranger, or someone in the grocery store. Once you both agree, then you can move on to other convo topics. Like say, how the Braves are doing.
8. Become the ultimate fan for any Georgia team.
Speaking of Georgia sports, Georgians are darn loyal to their teams, despite whether or not they win. Truthfully, Georgians will be die-hard fans for their teams, and if they are losing, then that only means Georgians will cheer them on more.
9. Consider all soda a Coke unless otherwise noted.
Georgians deem all soda a Coke, and will do so for the end of time. If you want something different, then you will need to be crystal clear.
10. Obsess over Southern food.
Georgia has unbelievable food. Hands down, some of the best in the country. Southern food is always in abundance wherever you travel in the state, and with one plate you will see why we are so darn obsessed.
11. Plan for any and all weather conditions.
One day it's in the 70s the next day it's snowing. Such is life in Georgia. This is why we carry umbrellas, snow shovels, and swim suits practically everywhere we go.
12. Continuously name new streets Peachtree.
You would think that after two or three streets with the name Peachtree it would be enough....yet here we are, 71 streets with some variant of Peachtree in it and counting...
