Georgia is a beautiful place and everyone knows it! That's why in recent times, some very high-profile Hollywood directors have chosen to film a many feature films right in our backyards. Move over California! Georgia just may become the next Hollywood! Here are 15 movies filmed in Georgia that you probably thought were made in Hollywood!
1. Blended (2014)
Parts of this romantic comedy featuring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler was shot at Lake Lanier, Buford, and Gainesville.
2. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013)
This funny comedy featuring Will Ferrell shot its big fight scene right in Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta. If you look closely you can see the Flat Iron Building in the background. Other parts of the movie was shot in other parts of metro Atlanta as well as St. Simons.
3. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
This huge blockbuster featuring Jennifer Lawrence filmed the first half in metro Atlanta. Several landmarks can be seen in the movie such as the Georgia World Congress Center and the Marriott Marquis Hotel.
4. The Internship (2013)
This comedy about two adults landing a Google internship was shot on the Georgia Tech Campus and around downtown Atlanta. The film features Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
5. Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2012)
This horror about Abraham Lincoln battling the undead and the confederacy was filmed in Savannah, Georgia. The major fight scene was filmed at Fort Pulaski.
6. X-Men: First Class (2011)
Part of this X-Men series movie was filmed in Tybee Island, Thunderbolt, and Savannah. This movie based on a comic features James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult.
7. Need for Speed (2014)
The recent movie was shot in Macon, Braselton, and Columbus Georgia. It's an action movie starring Aaron Paul .
8. Selma (2014)
This historical drama was recreated by Oprah and is based off of the 1965 Selma march for voting rights led by Martin Luther King Jr. It was filmed in Marietta at the Marietta Square, the Rockdale County Courthouse in Conyers, and in some places in Newton County.
9. Hall Pass (2011)
This funny movie stars Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson as two married men who had a week off from their wives Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate. Only a few scenes were shot in Georgia; Piedmont Avenue in downtown Atlanta, Gwinnett Medical Center, and Johnny's Hideaway.
10. Footloose (2011)
This 1984 American classic was originally shot in Memphis, Tennessee. However, Georgia won against Tennessee as the location for this remake!
11. The Crazies (2010)
This horror movie was shot in several locations around Georgia. Some locations include the Georgia National Fairgrounds, Priester's Pecans in Perry, Georgia, and Peach County High School in Fort Valley.
12. Lottery Ticket (2010)
This comedy featuring rapper Bow Wow took place all around metro Atlanta. It was filmed specifically in Herndon Homes and Lakewood.
13. The Blind Side (2009)
The Blind Side is based off a true story of football star Michael Oher. This movie featuring Sandra Bullock was shot all around Atlanta and earned Bullock an Oscar for her performance.
14. Stomp the Yard (2007)
This famous movie about the lives of fraternities at a local HBCU was shot in Atlanta and Decatur, Georgia.
15. Remember the Titans (2000)
Another famous football movie was filmed right here in Georgia! This film featuring Denzel Washington was filmed in Woodstock, Dallas, and Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
