Thanks to beautiful temperatures around the Centennial State, picnic season is in full swing, which means it is time to pack your lunch and blanket and enjoy a meal al fresco. If you are looking for a new place to picnic that is as scenic as it is peaceful, we highly recommend checking out the fantastic John Denver Sanctuary in Colorado:
Located in Aspen, the John Denver Sanctuary is a stunning outdoor oasis that is nestled in the heart of the charming mountain town.
Named for the internationally-acclaimed singer and songwriter, the John Denver Sanctuary was dedicated in 1998 after the singer's untimely death.
As per Jeff Woods, the former Manager of Parks & Recreation at the City of Aspen, the John Denver Sanctuary not only honors Colorado's favorite singer but also serves as a "garden to capture nature’s spirit. We decided to call it a ‘sanctuary’ and that it should reflect John’s passion for nature and protecting the environment.”
When you visit the Sanctuary today, you will discover thousands of perfectly-landscaped cubic yards that consist of everything from flowers to trees to boulders.
Whether you picnic near the tulips, along the stream, or under one of the mature trees, you are guaranteed an experience that will leave you hungry for more.
In addition to the trees, flowers, and boulders, the John Denver Sanctuary also boasts unique shrines of the late singer, many of which feature the lyrics to his most famous songs etched into giant stones.
