Whoa, Christmas is quite literally just around the corner! A few more hours and presents will be under the tree, Santa will have (hopefully) made his stop to your house, and we can all celebrate another wonderful day. So while you're wrapping up some last minute gifts or just hoping to catch a glimpse of the jolly old man, let's reflect on some things we hope Santa delivers to Arizona this next year.
1. More precipitation
That's all, list over. Oh, wait, I still have nine to go.
2. Lower summer temperatures
I personally prefer warmer temperatures over cold, but 118-degree days in Phoenix aren't exactly amazing. I could settle for a few more days under 110-degrees.
3. For the Cardinals to put their 2015 NFC West title to use and do well in the playoffs next month!
You can do it!
4. Continued downtown revitalization across the state
There should be more people walking around, especially at night! However, it's pretty great seeing some cities and towns get more lively downtown (or main street) areas over the last few years. Let's hope for more of that in 2016.
5. More additions to the food scene
Whether it's more artisan-focused foods or more varied food trucks, we just want to see more homegrown restaurants and fewer chains.
6. While we're at it, more economic growth.
Arizona overall saw decent economic growth in 2015 and the unemployment rate was in the single digits. Here's to another year of growth!
7. Some much-needed improvements to certain government departments.
I think we all know of at least one that could use improvements. Santa, you're our only hope.
8. More covered parking that doubles as solar power planets.
We complain about having to find shade in the summer and why Arizona doesn't use more solar power. Why not knock out two birds with one stone with these?
9. Halting uranium mining at the Grand Canyon.
If you didn't know already state officials, including Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, are pushing to have closed uranium mines near the Grand Canyon re-opened. Do we really want to see a state beauty to become associated with radioactivity and contamination?
10. Love
This world could always use more love: love for each other, love for the land and animals.
